Current trends in literary semiotics (Mihhail Lotman, Tallinn University, University of Tartu)
Although the Tartu Semiotic School started in 1960s with modelling literature, to be more precise, poetry, its later works focused on more general culturological themes. Recently also a vigorous biosemiotical direction has developed in Tartu. All this has marginalized the sphere of literary semiotics. Nevertheless, some important results in the sphere of literary semiotics have again influenced the landscape of general semiotics. The paper will dwell on the interrelationship between literature and language, while the notion of language is used in more general meaning than before.
